Before you build
- A hammer and access to the packager and conveyor in the build menu.
- A reachable base hatch and enough room for a short belt test.
- Check your installed game version: patch 1.0.4 fixes a packing failure that could occur even with power and materials.

BUILD IT IN THIS ORDER

Start at the destination
Find an exterior hatch on the starter base and build a short conveyor into it. The Ginger Empire demonstrates the square connection points on the hub; a Steam discussion also describes capsules being sold when they reach these hatches. Keep the first route short enough that you can watch an item travel all the way.

Connect the packager
Put the packager at the collection end of that conveyor. Check the direction of travel before you add more belt. The useful test is simple: can one load leave the packager and reach the base? A long route makes a reversed section or bad connection much harder to find.

Sweep, then load
Collect dust and use the packager’s interaction prompt to load it. The packager handles the return trip; you still collect the dust yourself. Do not expect this machine alone to sweep the ground. Watch its output and then follow the capsule to the base before walking away.

Extend only the working line
Once a load reaches its destination, extend the collection end towards the next dusty area. Keep the output route visible at bends and junctions. If you later add robot vacuums, leave clearance for them to move under or around the belt. The demonstration raises its conveyor to leave that room.

A USEFUL FIRST TEST
A small setup that proves the whole route
Use one packager, a short conveyor and one base hatch. Load dust once. Watch for three separate events: the packager releases a capsule, the belt carries it, and the hatch accepts it. Stop at the first missing event. This gives you a specific connection or machine to inspect instead of rebuilding the entire line.
FIND THE FIRST THING THAT STOPS
What do you see?
Nothing leaves the packager
Confirm you loaded dust, inspect the machine’s displayed requirements and make sure its exit is clear. If it reports “Could not pack a capsule” despite having what it needs, check the version before changing the layout.
A capsule stops on the belt
Follow the capsule to the exact stopping point. Inspect the direction and connection there, then test that short segment again.
Putting capsules on a belt is awkward
In the Steam thread, MagmaShark5 recommends holding Ctrl and using the mouse wheel to lower the belt during placement. Leave a moment between placing capsules. This is a community tip, not a new packing command.
The line works alone but junctions behave differently in co-op
Patch 1.0.4 lets crewmates place splitters and mergers on other players’ belts and changes mergers to alternate between inputs. Use that version’s behavior when checking a junction.

WATCH THE CONNECTIONS
See the player demonstration.
This 24 October demonstration shows a packager feeding the starter base. Its robot-vacuum segment is a different machine from JOONAS. The 1.0.4 packing fix came later. Loads YouTube when you press play.
Questions players ask
Does the packager collect dust for me?
The demonstrated packager is a deposit point for dust you collect. A robot vacuum or JOONAS is the collection machine. Start with the packager when carrying dust home is your immediate problem.
Can a conveyor sell dust at the base?
The player demonstration connects a conveyor to the hub, and the Steam discussion describes exterior base hatches accepting capsules for sale. Test one capsule at your chosen hatch before building a long route.
Do I need to rebuild everything after the packing error?
First check for patch 1.0.4: the developer lists a fix for machines pausing with “Could not pack a capsule” despite having power and materials. After updating, check the actual input, output and power state if the problem continues.
